  4. Noongar Country Artist in Residence

The Noongar Country Artist in Residence program at Wilger Mia (Bunbury Regional Art Gallery) provides artists with a dedicated studio space and time for creative exploration. The program allows artists to connect with new audiences and networks, enriching their creative practice as well as the opportunity to engage with gallery visitors and other artists.

The program is open to all First Nations artists of all disciplines and at different stages of their career - emerging, mid-career and established. Artists will receive use of an arts studio within BRAG and a space for exhibiting their work. The residency does not cover accommodation or travel costs.

During the residency, artists are encouraged to participate actively in the Noongar Arts Program through skill sharing, working on projects with the artists and demonstrating their work in the studio. Artists are also invited to keep their doors open and interact with gallery visitors, sharing stories of their practice and artwork throughout the Noongar Country exhibition.

The residency may also include mentoring, promotion, and support with the development of a public engagement event such as an artist talk, panel discussion or workshop. The residency will take place for a negotiated period between one to three months.

  • Noongar Country covers the South-West corner of Western Australia, from Geraldton on the west coast, east to Southern Cross in the Wheatbelt and as far south as Esperance on the south coast.

The City of Bunbury and Bunbury Regional Art Gallery acknowledge the traditional owners of the land, the Noongar Wardandi people and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal communities and their culture; and to Elders past, present and emerging.

Noongar Country is an annual exhibition hosted by the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery. In 2025, the exhibition is open to all Indigenous artists who call Noongar Country home. This year’s exhibition encompasses the entire Bunbury Regional Art Gallery.
