Embrace your creativity through repurposing and recycling at the Wearable Art Festival!
After a successful first year, the Bunbury Public Libraries are excited to announce the festival's return and aims to increase awareness on reducing landfill waste. This year's Wearable Art Festival includes a community competition and a finalist showcase parade on 5 October 2024.
In the lead-up to the showcase, a variety of community workshops will be open to all to discover new ideas and explore ways of repurposing waste materials into art. More details below.
Wearable Art Festival is a free, family-friendly community event for all ages and abilities.

- Registrations open: 15 March 2024
- Registrations close: 4 August 2024
- Shortlisting: 2 - 16 September 2024
- Showcase and Parade: 5 October 2024

Q. Why do I need to register and what information is required upon registration?
Registrations are a formal expression of interest in the wearable art and sculpture competition. At the registration stage, there is no requirement to have started or finalised your submission or provide details about your work.
Q: When do registrations close?
A: Sunday, 4 August 2024. Registrations must be received in person at the library or via email by this date to be considered for entry into the Wearable Art competition. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Q: When do I need to have my wearable art, or sculpture completed?
A: WAF organisers will contact all entrants upon receipt of their registration to request additional information and/or images on your submission. Entrants will have until 5pm Monday, 2 September 2024 to provide this additional information. Therefore, entrants are encouraged to have as much work as possible done on their wearable art or sculpture before Monday, 2 September 2024. Images provided at shortlisting may be presented to judges or used in the people’s choice awards.
Q: How will entrant submissions be shortlisted?
A: As above, WAF facilitators will contact all entrants to request additional information and/or images on entrant’s wearable art or sculptures submitted into the WAF competition. Entrant submissions will be reviewed for shortlisting, ensure information is provided by 5pm Monday, 2 September 2024.
Q: When we will be notified if we have been shortlisted or not?
A: WAF organisers will contact shortlisted entrants by Monday, 16 September 2024.
Q: Do I need to attend the finalist parade on Saturday, 5 October 2024?
A: To be eligible for prizes, all shortlisted entrants in the Wearable Art ‘Fashion or Hat’ subcategories must showcase their work in the finalist’s parade at 10am to 12pm on the 5 October. Shortlisted entrants in the ‘sculpture’ subcategory do not need to be present at the finalist’s parade, however, do need to ensure their sculpture is delivered to the library by 5pm Tuesday, 1 October 2024 for display and judging throughout the finalists showcase and parade on Saturday, 5 October 2024.
Q: What if I cannot attend the finalist’s parade and showcase on Saturday, 5 October 2024?
A: If you have been shortlisted in the Wearable Art ‘fashion or hat’ subcategories and are unable to attend the finalist’s parade, you may nominate someone to attend on your behalf. You will need to notify WAF organisers the details of your nominated person to bunlib@bunbury.wa.gov.au no later Monday, 16 September 2024.
Q: I am entering a sculpture; how will I know if I have won?
A: Shortlisted sculpture submissions will be showcased throughout the parade at Bunbury Library. Judging and awards will take place between 10am – 12pm at the finalist showcase parade. If you are not present at the parade, you will be contacted within two business days after the parade to notify you of any awards and/or prizes applicable.
Q: When does judging take place?
A: The judging panel will assess each entry at the finalist’s showcase and parade on Saturday, 5 October 2024 and announce the winners in each category.
Q: What are the People’s Choice Awards?
A: Visitors to the Bunbury Library and attendees at the finalist’s showcase and parade will have the opportunity to vote on their favourite ‘fashion, hat and sculpture’ entries. The entries with the most visitor votes, wins.
Registrants are required to complete the below online forms to provide details on their project thus far. This is to enable judges to shortlist eligible entrants and their submissions as well as learn about you, what materials were used, any key messages in your work or technical skills used.
Responses to the below relevant links are required by Monday 2 September 2024. Failure to complete the below will result in a registrants withdrawal from Wearable Art Festival shortlisting and finalists parade.
