The City of Bunbury currently has 153 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras scattered throughout Bunbury.

The majority are currently located throughout the Central Business District (CBD) but also exist at the City’s libraries, Bunbury Wildlife Park, South West Sports Centre and other popular reserves and hot spots.

These cameras record 24/7 and most of them directly link to a central control room where data can be retrieved immediately upon request from Police. A direct feed to the Bunbury Police Station also allows Police Officers to view footage from CCTV cameras in public areas in real time when offences are occurring and also retrospectively following a report of an offence to assist with investigations.

Footage is only available to Police or via a summons from the Court. If a member of the Public becomes the victim of a crime, they should report the matter to Police on 131 444 or 000 if it is a current emergency and a threat to life or wellbeing is present. Police can then request the footage from City of Bunbury staff to aid in the investigation and help with quick resolutions to crime and apprehension of offenders.

The City is currently working with WA Police to possibly expand the access to CCTV footage to Police officers outside of the City of Bunbury area, as part of the Safer Cities project. The ability to view footage immediately will build community unity, resilience and overall sense of community safety.

The City is also working on innovative solutions to expand our network and reduce the fear of crime in our City. These cameras are only used to view offences reported to us by Police and are never viewed in a live environment by the City. Our goal is to provide Police with information and data that will reduce the instances of crime and make our community feel safer.

CCTV is used for evidence and is part of a whole solution to achieve safer communities that involves WA Police and City of Bunbury working collaboratively together to make us the safest city in WA.
