Make the most of the final week of the school holidays in Bunbury by planning exciting and memorable activities for the whole family to enjoy by visiting two of our most famous waterways – Koombana Bay and the Leschenault Inlet.
Both precincts offer a wide range of attractions and experiences that are perfect for keeping everyone entertained and creating lasting memories. What’s more awesome is that you can park your car in one easy location and visit a myriad of attractions.
When was the last time you visited the Dolphin Discovery Centre? This world-class facility is right on our doorstep and allows visitors to interact with the wild bottle nosed dolphins that frequent Koombana Bay.
Enjoy interactive exhibits, learn about marine conservation, and even take a cruise to see dolphins in their natural habitat. You can refuel at the onsite café which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
There is plenty of parking both at the centre or across the road – and even better it is free!
If the kids are still buzzing with energy, then make your way a bit further down the bay and let them run riot at the Koombana Bay Foreshore playground while you enjoy a well-deserved coffee at the recently opened 62Thirty Café.
The state-of-the-art play area includes a flying fox, water play, sandpits and slides ensuring hours of endless fun.
And let’s not forget the bay itself! Go for a cold plunge in the ocean without fear of being knocked over by any waves or take a stroll and feel the wind and sun upon your skin while the kids explore. Or better yet – see who can build the biggest sandcastle!
Across the road at the Leschenault Inlet is the newly completed Mangrove Cove playground complete with lookout tower giving 360-degree views of Bunbury. The playground has accessible elements and complements the nearby mangroves which are also worth checking out while you are in the area. There are barbecue facilities as well as undercover seating if the weather turns.
Okay it’s winter but we know how kids don’t feel the cold! Make your way toward the CBD on the shared path leading from Mangrove Cove and spend some time at the Splash Park. Owned and operated by Discovery Parks the facility is open for the whole community and visitors to enjoy. Don’t forget to bring towels!
Or stay nice and dry at the adjacent Sykes Playground. There are plenty of barbecues and undercover seating to enjoy a bite to eat too as well as toilet and change facilities. Help protect our waterways and separate your rubbish correctly by taking advantage of the three-bin system at this location.
Continuing along the path and just a hop, skip and a jump away under the Koombana Drive bridge you will be greeted with the impressive sight that is Koolambidi Woola. The youth precinct has been open to the community for almost 12 months and is Bunbury’s most popular attraction for young people even being recognised as WA’s Best Park.
This purpose-built facility includes a multi-sports court, parkour areas, mini golf, beach climbing net, skate areas, barbecues, seating and toilet facilities. Kids and not so big kids will love this!
Now you’ve got two choices head back to the car or make your way into the CBD where more fun awaits. Hoyts Cinemas and Timezone are located right across the road from Koolambidi Woola. Or across the road head out for an early dinner at one of the many eateries located at the Marlston Waterfront.
