Family friendly fun in Bunbury

  1. Home
  2. Family friendly fun in Bunbury

Young families living in Bunbury are spoiled for choice when it comes to activities and attractions to keep the tribe entertained.

The City of Bunbury is home to more than 40 parks and playgrounds with several receiving a makeover in the past 12 months.

Each year the City works hard to ensure its parks and playgrounds are maintained and upgraded when necessary.

A popular playground is located at Sykes Foreshore which also features barbecue facilities, changerooms and toilets and a lush grass. area to relax back on.

A cycleway runs the length of the family-friendly area making it easily accessible on foot or by bike. Take a lap around the inlet and explore the Mangrove Cove while you are there. There is an accessible viewing platform and playground as well as a larger lookout for those don't mind climbing to new heights. Don't forget to check out the mangroves!

Across the road is the popular Koombana Bay Foreshore precinct where families can spend an entire day enjoying its amenities such as the beach, playground, barbecues, grassed areas and 62Thirty Cafe to feed any hungry bellies.

Koombana Bay is also home to wild bottlenose dolphins and the iconic Dolphin Discovery Centre.

Inside the centre the kids can gain an education in local marine life while outside in the interaction zone they may catch a glimpse of a wild dolphin.

The Bunbury Wildlife Park is another iconic family-friendly attraction and home to a variety of native animals including dingoes, kangaroos, wallabies and reptiles.

There is also a large playground next door including accessible play equipment, barbecue facilities and plenty of shade.

A fun game to play when the kids are eager to get out and about is to pretend to be tourists for the day.

Stop by all the lookouts – Boulters Heights, APEX lookout, Mangrove Cove, the Maidens – and pose for a cheesy family selfie. Visit locations you usually drive by – get to know Bunbury again.

If you prefer to stay indoors did you know the Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre runs programs for kids? Keep an eye on their Facebook page for details, however in the meantime bring the whole family and discover Bunbury’s rich history housed in the historic Paisley Centre building.

Another historic location perfect for the whole family to enjoy is the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery.

Our public libraries are another handy location to stop by and while away the hours reading a book in one of the nooks or taking part in one of the many activities on offer especially over the school holidays.
