The City of Bunbury is commissioning a local Noongar Wardandi artist to create artwork for the South West Sports Centre Swim School.
Published 13 November 2023
A $2000 commission will be awarded to successful applicant.
The artwork will feature a series of aquatic animal characters, each with an accompanying dialogue that highlights the cultural significance of the animal in relation to Bunbury and local waterways. Each character will represent a stage within the South West Sport Centre’s learn-to-swim program.
Initially, the characters will feature on marketing assets, certificates and in an attendance book for students and families with the aim of promoting inclusivity and raising awareness of the Noongar culture and learning more about country. There are future opportunities for the preferred artist to create a wall mural within the South West Sports Centre.
The artwork should feature eight aquatic animals/creatures connected to Bunbury and the South West region and could include, but not limited to, jellyfish, starfish, dolphin, stingray, whale, crab, tadpole and frog. The characters will need to be submitted with a transparent or plain background. Each character needs to be vibrant in colour, engaging for people of all ages and align with the branding of the South West Sports Centre.
You are invited to apply with ideas and/or samples of aquatic characters and at least two examples of your previous work by 30 December. The final artwork will need to be provided in digital formats by 30 January 2024.
