Waste and Recycling
City of Bunbury’s Waste Strategy
Reducing waste and preserving our environment is one of the City of Bunbury’s major priorities.
The City of Bunbury is aligned with the State’s Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030, which provides a long-term strategy for continuous improvement of waste management benchmarked against best practice. It includes targets for waste avoidance, resource recovery and environmental protection, including the diversion of waste disposed to landfill.
Our goal is to make it easy for you to compost food organics and garden organics, recycle, and divert e-waste, hard waste and chemicals from landfill while discovering, promoting and educating on opportunities to further achieve low-waste living.
Bunbury was the first Local Government in Western Australia to introduce the three-bin FOGO system in 2013 and has shown consistently high performance thereafter.

Our number one priority is optimising source separation (putting the right things in the right bins).
A GREAT Sort has the biggest impact on waste management, significantly reducing waste heading to landfill plus offering the best resource recovery opportunities and support of circular economy initiatives.

Residential Kerbside Collections
The City of Bunbury supplies residents with three bins:
1 red binlid general waste bin (collected fortnightly)
1 yellow binlid recycling bin (collected fortnightly)
1 lime green binlid FOGO bin (food organics/garden organics) (collected weekly)
Each week you will bring two bins kerbside for collection. **Refer to the waste calendar for which bins.
Bins should be placed within one metre of the road kerb, and about one metre apart, prior to 6am on collection day, with the handles facing towards the property. The bin must not block footpaths or driveways. Bins should be placed clear of parked cars, trees, poles and power lines to allow clear access to the service vehicles.
The Bins supplied by City of Bunbury remain the property of City of Bunbury.
You should not relocate any bins when moving or have more than three bins at your property without having an approved agreement in place with the City of Bunbury.
