Monday, 2 December 2019

More than 50 Bunbury residents took the pledge to become Australian citizens on Wednesday 27 November.

The special Citizenship Ceremony was held at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre and hosted by Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan.

Fifty-one people from 12 countries including India, Philippines, UK, Mexico, Ireland, Nepal, Vietnam, South Africa, France, New Zealand, Denmark and the United States of America were honoured with citizenship in front of friends and family.

This was the third ceremony to be held in 2019 and the largest.

Mayor Gary Brennan said becoming an Australian citizen was a privilege and can be an emotional time for those taking the pledge.

“On behalf of Council and the Bunbury community I welcome our new Australian citizens and am honoured to have been a part of this momentous occasion,” Mayor Brennan said.

“Thank you for choosing to call Bunbury home.”

The next Citizenship Ceremony will take place as part of the City’s Skyfest Australia Day celebrations with more than 100 Bunbury residents preparing to become citizens.

This will be the biggest ceremony in City of Bunbury history.
